Dad’s Stories
As most old men do, my old man (Thomas) had a lot of stories. And as most old men do, my old man told them a lot.
Once he asked, “Christopher, did I ever tell you about the time I …?”
I responded, “Yes, Dad, at least a dozen times.”
He replied, “Well I can change the ending for you.”
“I’ve heard that version too.” I quickly quipped. (A rare case of me knowing what to say right then instead of 5 minutes later staircase-wit.)
We both laughed. And that became a favorite exchange. Sometimes he’d joke “I could change the ending again.” And of course I’d rejoin, “Nah, I’ve heard that ending too.”
Well he’s been gone 10 years now (2016-04-02) and man what I would give to hear some of his old stories again.
